How To Show Your Appreciation For Veterans And Active Service Members During Military Appreciation Month

May is Military Appreciation Month, and throughout the month, we encourage individuals across the country to share their thanks for our veterans and active service members. To honor our service members and veterans, try out one of the ideas listed below this month.

1. Donate to a Non-profit Organization

There are so many great military organizations that you could consider donating to during Military Appreciation Month. While a financial donation will be gratefully received, if that’s not possible currently, you could also consider donating your time to the charity. Make sure you research how the charity will spend your funds before donating this month to ensure they will use the funds in a way you deem appropriate.

You can contribute to the Monument to Women Veterans to assist with the building of the Pensacola museum and monument here.

2. A Random Act of Kindness

If you are out and about this month and see a veteran or an active service member, share your appreciation by buying them a drink or meal. This random act of kindness will brighten up their day, and it’s a simple and inexpensive way to thank someone for their service.

3. Share Your Praise on Social Media

Social media gives everyone in the world access to comments and information. Veterans and active service members will be able to see any words of gratitude you post on military support pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You never know how much a few kind words can help someone through a challenging day.

4. Send a Care Package or Letter

With so many active service members still deployed overseas, they sometimes don’t have the chance to get their usual supplies and comforting items from home for months on end. Send a card or a care package to someone serving overseas, which you can do through a site such as Operation Gratitude. These packages or letters could completely transform someone’s day this month, and they’ll be touched by the effort and care you’ve put into the package. If you aren’t sure what to put into a care package, just think of the items you’d love to have if you were away from home for a long time, and they’ll be sure to appreciate anything you send them.

5. Support Businesses Owned by Veterans

In every town and city in the country, you’ll easily find businesses owned by veterans, military members, or their spouses. This month, go out of your way to support them and encourage others to do the same. The past year has been incredibly challenging for all types of businesses, so even just a few small purchases can help to boost the business owner’s morale this month.

6. Show Your Pride

There are many great patriotic t-shirts on sale today, which show your support for our veterans and active service members. Wear a t-shirt with pride when you are out and about this month to show how grateful you are for their work. If you don’t have a shirt already, consider buying one from a military charity to offer your support this month.

While all of these ideas listed above are a great way to share your appreciation this month, perhaps the most straightforward way you can show your gratitude is with a simple “thank you” to any veterans or active service members you meet. Taking the time to thank our military members can make a massive difference to their lives, and even the smallest gestures are greatly appreciated during Military Appreciation Month.
